1月14日（土曜日）「クリティカルシンキング」セミナーレポート

狩野みき先生の「クリティカルシンキング」のセミナーはとても和やかな雰囲気の中で

開催されました。実際にあった話を聞いたり、また受講者参加型だったりと思わず先生のお話に引き込まれてしましました。クリティカルシンキングを小さなときから行っているのと、いないのとでは大人になってから大きな違いがでてくるものだと感じました。

受講者の皆さんからの意見や質問も活発にかわされました。またセミナー終了後には、

先生に質問をしたり、受講者同士でお互いの情報交換をしていたりする姿も見られました。

セミナーで新しい知識や情報をご提供することで皆さんのお役に立てることができるのは

もちろん嬉しいことですが、受講者同士の輪が広がっていくことも、また大変喜ばしいことだと思います。

狩野先生、受講いただいた皆様ありがとうございました。

☆☆11月26日（土曜日）オープンセミナーレポート☆☆　

やなぎ教育グループ顧問、元龍谷大学教授　永保澄雄教授と、Willowbrook　International　School　前田郁代園長によりやなぎオープンセミナーが開催されました。30名近くの方々にお集まりいただきまして和やかな中で「グローバルチャイルドを育てる」ことについてお話がすすみました。グローバルな人とはどんな特徴を持っている人間かという問いかけから始まり、前田園長の考えはもとより、参加された方々の意見を伺う事が出来たのは、とても有意義な時間でした。グローバルチャイルドを育てるのに私達はどんなことが具体的に出来るかというトピックでは、13の項目に対し熱心に書き取られる参加者の方々の姿に皆様の真剣さを垣間見る思いです。

English education in Japan is often compared to that of South Korea, and it is commonly said that the Japanese traditional method of teaching Japanese through grammar and the written English, is unpractical and difficult to apply to real English.

On the contrary, South Korea, who also used to teach through the traditional method, has changed their teachings to a conversational approach, and has been seeing more progress in the English ablities than before.

一般的にバイリンガルといわれると、通常は言語のことを言うのだろう。しかし、バイリンガルを正確に表すのであれば、言語だけではなく、カルチャーも含めて言うのだ。真のバイリンガルは、両カルチャーにも影響され育った結果でもある。

More often than not, when people talk about “bilingualism,” they’re talking about speech, about the language that is being used. However, when it comes to true bilingualism, it’s more than just the language, it’s also the culture, the “being” of that person.

先日、インターネット上で日本の小学校における英語教育の記事を読みました。そこでは日本と韓国、中国に英語教育を比べていたのがとても興味深く、印象に残ったのです。 

皆さんご存知のように、日本では小学校の英語教育はほんの数年前に開始されました。

The other day, I read an Internet article about English classes in Japanese elementary schools. I thought it was interesting, for it compared the Japanese style to the Korean style, and the whole point of the article being, Japanese methods of teaching children English is not only ineffective, but it doesn't even leave a mark in the children's minds.

The Japanese government started English classes in elementary schools only a few years ago. Prior to, English was only embedded into the curriculum from middle school and onwards. 

However, the globalization of the world made it essential for children to start learning at an earlier age.

One of my colleagues left for the US today. She will be on vacation for about 10 days, visiting various cities within the US as well as Toronto.

Which is funny, because she just came back from the UK a month ago. She was also there for about 10 days on vacation.

Recently, there has been sudden thunderstorms/rain every night.

Typical Japanese summer weather, one might say, but it is terrifying enough as it is. We must almost always carry an umbrella around. Many Japanese dry their laundry out on a clothes line outside, but even that has to be done after careful speculation of the weather forecast.

Now that we've got the odango cards out and rolling, we're trying to put all the other ideas our teachers have into effect.

One thing we've started working on are wooden puzzles. It's still very confidential how they will look like as a product, but we are very excited about it all.

Another thing we have started to look into is a Children's book, or a dictionary. We intend for it to synchronize with the odango cards that we already have, hoping that it will add a little more when using it together!

We are trying to be very creative too, so it will still take some time for the finished product to come out in stores.

Finally the day is almost here... we will be receiving proper bar codes that are essential for circulation in Japan. The application process took a long long time, but we're nearing the end!!
